What to expect at your hearing test?

The best possible treatment is simple and easy. There are three steps to start:

What to expect at your hearing test infographic

  1. A hearing assessment – You sit restfully in a noise-controlled environment wearing a comfortable set of headphones. You will be asked to press a button in response to a series of tones. Your responses will help us know the exact state of your hearing health. The test will last about an hour.
  2. An examination – Once we have quantified your hearing health, one of our hearing care professionals will examine your ears. The examination is painless and will help us determine possible causes if there is hearing loss (e.g. wax build up, infection).
  3. An interview – This is the most important step in the process. Our hearing care professional will ask you about how your hearing health has affected you. It’s a simple conversation that will yield the final pieces needed to make the perfect recommendation to fit your needs.

You and your loved ones also receive advice on how to best communicate in different everyday situations, both with and without a hearing aid.

Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner (RHIP)

Colleen was first inspired to work in the hearing health care industry after working as a clinic assistant. She was moved by the positive impact the hearing professional had on the lives of her clients. In 2003 she moved to the Okanagan and worked in clinic while obtaining her diploma. She has been licensed with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC since 2010. In 2015 she joined HearingLife after relocating to her hometown of Vancouver. Colleen takes pride in being a hearing health care advocate and enjoys many aspects of her position including fitting hearing aids, sharing knowledge and educating the community about hearing loss.

D'Arcy White

D'Arcy White graduated with a Masters degree in Audiology in 1981 from Minot State University in North Dakota. She worked for Provincial Health in her home province of Saskatchewan for 7 years providing hearing assessments, and fitting hearing aids to a adults, infants and children. She then took the Audiology position at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina where she provided diagnostic services to both inpatient and outpatient populations, as well as the Cleft Lip and Palate clinic for the southern part of the province. In 1992, the lure of better weather brought her to HearingLife (formerly Canadian Hearing Care) in Salmon Arm. It was love at first site, and she never missed the cold and wind. D'Arcy continues to offer a variety of hearing services including the latest hearing instrument technology, and coping strategies for improved communication. She periodically lectures at the local college and provides in-services regarding hearing and hearing impairment.

Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner (RHIP)

Keara began her university career at the University of British Columbia-Okanagan and moved on to graduate from the University of British Columbia-Vancouver with a major in Psychology and a double minor in Sociology and Linguistics. She went on to graduate from the International Hearing Society to become a Hearing Practitioner and is registered with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC. Keara has had the opportunity to travel the world learning new skills and strategies to foster positive communication ability for her clients . She brings an abundance of experience and energy to our Prince George clinic and is a strong proponent of hearing health education and maintaining a happy, healthy, social lifestyle.
