Does your health insurance cover hearing aids?

The short answer is that it depends on your insurance. Generally, hearing aids are not covered by most medical insurance,  but sometimes insurance companies offer an optional hearing plan that includes coverage for hearing aids and fittings. 

In order to find out if your insurance covers hearing aids, you must review your contract with the insurance company. The easiest way to find out is to call your insurance company to learn more.

What type of coverage exists?

The coverage provided depends on the details of your plan. Here are a few examples of what you can expect:

• One insurance plan might cover a portion of the full price of the hearing aids (for example, the plan might cover up to $1,000 of the hearing aid price)
• Another insurance plan may offer a discount that has been negotiated with a specific provider (for example: 20% of the hearing aid price)

2. What options do I have in case I want to upgrade my insurance plan to include the purchase of hearing aids?
3. In case you offer an insurance plan that covers hearing aids, are there any criteria associated with it?
4. How much do the various insurance plan options cover when hearing aids are purchased?
5. Is the insurance plan limited to specific hearing aid models or hearing care providers?
6. Will I have to pay the provider the full amount for the hearing aids before receiving reimbursement from the insurance company?
